Gidget won Best of Opposite Sex to her father Charger who was Best of Variety! Charger hasn't been shown in a few years and at 5 is prime.
GIlda finished her Grand Championship and Gidget picked up a few points going WB. It was 90 degrees, but worth the trip!
It has been months and months since we've been to a dog show. They are currently few and far between. We send baby Gilda to CT with a friend so she could have her first dog show experience. So I guess we still haven't been to a dog show... but Gilda got to go. It was a tough choice to send her out on her own. She hasn't had the same kind of training our puppies usually get before a show thanks to COVID. And I was worried about the pressure of a sink or swim situation on a puppy. I shouldn't have worried. She was spectacular!
Gilda (Gateside Mandalay Everything Under the Sun) picked up a 5 point specialty major and two specialty major reserves. Big congratulations to Liz Klein with rough littermate Lena (Gateside Mandalay Mascoma Citrine) on her 4 point specialty major. Not too shabby for a pair of 10 month old puppies at their first dog show. The future looks bright. Handled by Hannah Rawlings and Molli Jason (Sunday pm show) Jetty and Rhett are both OFA excellent hips and normal elbows!
We are excited to announce we are expecting. We have repeated the Moon and Stars litter. We are so thrilled with the athleticism, health clearances and workability of this litter we're doing it again hoping for a smooth tri to stay here. Puppies from the first litter are 10 moths old and starting obedience, conformation and agility. ***Update***
Well, sadly this litter didn't happen. Our powerhouse mom, Soliel, didn't take. So she has a break from mom duty....she is annoyed at having her food cut back. Turns out I was a little premature in upping her rations and she's a bit 'fluffy'. Diet time sweet girl, sorry. We've been taking advantage of COVID-19 lack of dog shows to pick up some beginner titles and run some health clearances.
Chickadee earned her CGC with her junior handler Olive earned her CGC...her first title Jade earned her TDN...you can teach an old dog new tricks Olive earned her TDN the same day as her grandmother Jade. It was so sweet! Sunday, Olive, Gilda and Kiwi all came back clear non carriers for DM. OFA's on Rhett and Jetty are pending. In light of our singleton litter (Kiwi) plans are being made to move one (or two) of our litters planned for 2021 forward. We will be doing a breeding in May for smooth and possibly rough sable puppies. We may also be co-breeding an all rough litter in tri and sable in May.
Not to count chickens before they hatch....there is a rumor that a litter from one of our co owned sires is due out West in another month. And, as much as we really prefer spring litters, it looks like we might be doing a late Summer/ early Fall litter. Our Summer/Fall breedings will still depend on how the Covid issue plays out. We don't want to be placing puppies in a tumbling economy and taking the risk that due to changes in family circumstances of applicants that puppies might end up homeless. In addition, traveling to get girls to their intended partners is obviously dependent on being able to safely travel. We are getting lots of inquiries for puppies as everyone is confined for social distancing. Please think carefully if now is a good time to expand your family. Socializing a new puppy now will be challenging. You will not be able to do an obedience class. Mandalay collies and Gateside collies have worked together for many years (12? 13? who keeps track of a friendship like this one?). Our partnership developed when we lived 50min apart in the Midwest 2 kids and many Championship collies ago. It allowed us to keep larger numbers of dogs in the manner we think collies should be kept, in the house and involved with the family, while allowing us to still compete with the bigger kennels. Since then we have moved to New Hampshire and Mandalay moved to Florida. We maintain our partnership with a lot of work, long distance calls and frequent flyer miles. The cancellation of our national specialty show and all dog shows for the next several months and the stay at home orders due to Covid-19 has thrown a monkey wrench in our plans to move dogs for this years breeding's. We are currently reorganizing our breeding plans for the next two years and if we can get dogs where they need to be for the breedings we want to do, we hope to have a summer litter yet in 2020. Wish us luck. Be safe and be kind.
