April Pupdate Page
This page is dedicated to all our prescreened, waitlisted puppy friends who are anxiously awaiting news of their new family member.
We were blessed with abundance this year and won the breeders lottery. We bred three girls and all three took. This has never happened for us before and we are somewhat stunned at our good fortune. All three litters were sired by the ever so handsome Rip.
Secret Sable Rough Litter (ppssst....it's Flirt!)
My co-breeder wants to keep this litter under wraps for the time being. Suffice it to say we have an exciting sable rough litter on the way. X-ray showed six wee lads and lassies waiting to make an appearance early April. MDR1 m/m, PRA clear, CEA mild on both parents. Here's a hint....
Sable rough puppies arrived 4/8/17. Mom and babies are doing well. 1 girl and 5 boys, three pure for sable and 3 tri factored.

Two of the sable rough boys at 7 days old. All have hit a pound in weight. Eyes aren't quiet open yet, but getting closer. They are almost up and walking already too. Time for a nail trim!
They are two weeks old and average weight is a pound and a half. Ears are open and eyes are starting to open.
Sometimes You Feel Like a Nut-
In reference to my agreeing to whelp 3 litters in 7 days, this litter is the honorary 'nut' litter. Named by my daughter (age 7) they are: Cashew, Pecan, Almond, Hazel (the only girl), Beech and Acorn.

Having a snooze in some sunshine at 2.5 weeks.
Puppies are learning to walk.
And learning to express their individuality! There is always one in any group who has to be different!
The sable puppies waited until 4 weeks to start gruel. It was just easier to start everyone and they were dong well with no supplementation at all. Eve's litter (in part due to size and size discrepancy between puppies) needed to start at 3 weeks.
Eve's Litter
This is a repeat of the breeding that produced the lovely Scarlett and her brother Rhett. X-ray showed at least 6 tiny beings in gestation, possibly a few more. It was pretty crowded in there and Eve has taken on the resemblance of a small land-bound orca (don't tell her I said that) so I'm guessing more than 6. Eve is a champion and certified therapy dog. She has a herding instinct certification. She is also the only collie on the property trained to pull a kick sled. She is a hoot. Eve is MDR1 m/m, PRA clear and CEA mild.
Well there is a reason poor Eve was so huge. Her first baby arrived at 4am 4/13/17. A whopping a 14.5 oz sable rough girl with a darling white kiss on her nose. She was followed buy 3 tri girls, 3 tri boy and a sable smooth boy and a sable rough boy. For those counting, yes, that was 9 puppies. X-ray suggested 6! Average weight was 12.5oz which are nice sized puppies for our family of collies. Looks like two smooth tris and the rest are rough. it will be easier to determine as coats finish drying.

24 hours old
Puppy pinwheel....4 days old. Final tally is 1 sable rough boy, 1 sable rough girl, 1 sable smooth boy, 1 tri smooth boy, 1 tri smooth girl, 2 tri rough boys and 2 tri rough girls.
Wishes Have Wings or Flights of Fancy-
Eve's litter is named after birds. We so badly wished to repeat the litter that gave us Scarlett and Rhett and are very grateful to have the opportunity to do so for Eve's last litter. We have named the puppies: Wren, Chickadee, Falcon, Raven, Hawk, Sparrow, Lark and Magpie.

So much change in size in only one week....
Gentle socialization and stimulation has begun. I'm lucky to have some excellent 'support staff'; always ready to cuddle a puppy.
Three weeks old and starting gruel....there always has to be one puppy IN the dish. Its a rule. Thanks, Falcon for taking on this tough job.

Jade's Litter
This is a repeat of the breeding that brought us our singleton Walker. We hope she's cooking more than one this time around and will be x-rayed next week. Jade is MDR1 M/N, PRA clear and CEA mild. She has 9 points including a specialty major and a basic obedience title. Jade is the official house lap warmer and is usually found sitting on top of anyone foolish enough to sit in the brown leather lazy boy. Oddly, she won't sit in the chair by herself, only if there is a nice comfy human to sit upon.
Born 4/14 Jade was the only one polite enough for a daytime whelping. She surprised us by admitting she was rough factored! We have 1 rough girl and 2 smooth boys.

Jade and smooth sable son at 3 days old
Life is a Highway- Named by my son (age 9) Jade's litter has been given their baby names of Tesla (the only girl), Charger and Mustang.
A solid week old and looking more like puppies and less like giant hamsters. Tesla is refusing to face the camera. Mustang and Charger are being more cooperative and photogenic.
Three weeks old and starting gruel...Charger is really in on the action. But this was Charger last week. I think he was sending me a message.
Outside!!!
We had some lovely weather so puppies went outside for the first time. They got to ride in the car over to the gravel kennel play yard. It was a busy day, big dogs, sunshine, gravel, new toys, bones, an igloo! They slept well that night!
Who Stayed?
From the Car litter we kept Tesla (she is being called Tess and is growing up in Florida and Mustang (we changed his name to Charger and he's here in New Hampshire.
From the Nut litter we kept Hazel and Almond. Almond's name was changed to Cash(ew). They are both growing up in Florida
From the Bird litter we kept Chickadee and Magpie (changed to Rook) both here in New Hampshire.
