Future Plans
Pearl is due end of November of 2023 in Florida and plans to breed Gilda, Olive and Sally here in NH are in place for 2024.
As preservation breeders, we breed for ourselves first with a mind towards preserving the traits that make collies uniquely suited for their original task as an all-around farm dog and sheep herding dog.

Gateside Puppies
All the dogs at Gateside are pets first. We live on 40 wooded acres in rural NH. We feel that healthy puppies are a product of good genetics, proper socialization, preventative medicine and sound rearing practices. From birth puppies are an active part of our household. They meet visitors, learn to play with the children, ride in the car and have the opportunity to be exposed to all the wonders of family life. All puppies go through the early neurological stimulation (or Super Puppy) program and we follow the Puppy Culture rearing model.
With any breeder you should expect eyes checks at 6-8 weeks with a boarded ophthalmologist. At Gateside, health and development is overseen by my husband, a licensed veterinarian. Socialization and noise desensitization is assisted by my 2 children (13 and 15 years) and their friends. We follow the Puppy Culture model for our puppy raising. While very labor intensive, it has produced the most balanced, focused, and responsive puppies we’ve ever had the pleasure to work and live with.
All our dogs are genetically tested clear for PRA, or are clear by parentage. Hip dysplasia isn't a major problem currently in collies and we'd like that to remain true so, we screen all the dogs prior to breeding. We test for carrier status for DMS. We have also been testing for DM and have had clear results to date.
You should expect all pet puppies from a reputable breeder to be sold on AKC limited registration, which means that a spay or neuter agreement is required. I would also expect that all puppies over 8 weeks to be microchipped, current on vaccines per AVMA (American Veterinary Medical Association) modified vaccination protocol (because a lot of breeders do their own vaccines and not all of them know how to do it properly), on flea, tick and heartworm prevention and come with a hard copy of MDR 1 results and CEA (Collie Eye Anomaly) results from an ophthalmologist.
We require pre-screening to be wait-listed for a puppy, but no deposit until we have a match of puppy and family.
We welcome visitors by appointment at our home or at a dog show if that is your preference, to meet our family of dogs. We consider the new puppy family’s part of our canine family and remain available for questions or concerns throughout the life of your puppy. Please let me know if I can answer any questions for you or be of additional help directing you to a puppy from a reputable source. Collies make a wonderful addition to a family.
