This page is dedicated to our retired dogs and those dogs of ours who have passed on.
Retired
We believe that dogs deserve a home life full of love and 1-1 commitment. Because we can only offer that to a few of our dogs at any given time, many of our dogs are placed as companions when they 'retire'. They give of themselves without reservation, and although we'd much rather keep them all near us, they have taught us to be generous too. So we place them so they can be someone's special heart dog, rather than one of our many beloved pack. By placing dogs that are retired from showing and/or breeding we let them have the lives we want for them....so although they may be gone from our house, yard and couch, they are never gone from our hearts.
Ch. Mandalay Gateside It's a Bikini World (Coral)
The third of the bikini sisters, Coral also lives in Florida with Pearl and is working on her Grand championship. She's shown here at just over a year showing at Royal Canin.
Gateside Mandalay Frankly My Dear (Rhett)
Kept as a show prospect, but now primarily a pet, Rhett was dog-napped by my father who needed a new walking companion. Renamed Corey, this lovely rough Rip son has never gone to a dog show or competed for a title. He has never met a person or dog he didn't like and is a happy ray of sunshine everyplace he goes. He lives a life of leisure traveling New England and coming home most winters to stay with us. Corey is MDR1 M/M, PRA clear, CEA mild. OFA excellent hips and normal elbows. Corey is proven with smooth and rough finished specialty winning championship offspring. He is the father of both Sally and Holmes
Ch. Mandalay Gateside Beach Bunny (Bunny)
Bunny was a keeper from the start. She's the only daughter Elka produced. She'll be growing up in Florida once she's old enough to travel. Where a beach bunny should grow up! Photo at 8 weeks.
Bunny finished going BOV over specials in early 2020.
Bunny is the mother of Gidget, Pearl and Coral.

Ch. BPISS Gateside Mandalay And Twice on Sunday
Sweet baby Sunday was our singleton puppy. We didn't want to take a chance on this puppy so we did an elective C-section and she was so worth it. She is a little bundle of joy. She never stops wagging. Her first weekend at a dog show was at the Collie Club of Maine specialties she took WB/BOW and WB/BOW/BOV over specials and BPISS in show. She finished in three show weekends with 3 majors.
Her baby photo is at 10 weeks, below at a year.
Sunday is MDR1 M/M, PRA clear, CEA mild and DM low risk. She will be OFA'd once she is 2.
Sunday had a beautiful singleton litter sable smooth daughter in 2022 who has stayed to grow up in Florida with Jaye.

Ch. Turnberry Mandalay Gateside Lumiere De La Lune, (Brie)
Brie is another generous gift from Turnberry Collies. We sent a sable puppy named Miles (BISS GCh. Gateside Mandalay Miles to Turnberry) from our Soliel x Charger litter out to Turnberry in Arizona. He lived up to everyone's expectations and has done some wonderful things out that way. When he sired his first litter, Turnberry sent us a pair of smooth sable siblings, Brie and Apollo. Both puppies had delayed show careers due to Covid. Brie lives in Florida at Mandalay and was finally able to go to her first dog show and took back to back majors.
Brie retired and is enjoy life as a family dog.

Turnberry Mandalay Gateside I'll Follow the Sun, CGC (Soleil) Major Pointed
A Seeker daughter out of a Turnberry bitch, Soleil came to us as a stud fee puppy from Arizona. She is a double great grand daughter of the lovely Abby; MBISS GCH Kingsmark First Impression PT OA OAJ ROM. She was the #1 smooth collie in 2007, BOV at Westminster in 2008 and CCA AOM in 2007, 2012 and 2015. Soleil is major pointed. She is MDR1 N/N, PRA clear, DMS low risk, OFA Hips Excellent and elbows normal and CEA mild.
And while she doesn't love the show ring, she is an amazing mother and a really easy house dog.
I snapped this photo when she was playing in the rain, ungroomed and 6 weeks pregnant. Somehow she STILL managed to look great. Wish I could pull that off!
Soliel offspring are outstandingly athletic and physically fearless. They possess plenty of energy with a uniquely biddable nature making them truly the culmination of collie personality and temperament.
Soleil retired at 4.5 to her very own family and couch. We miss her so much, but are thrilled with the offspring she left in our care.

Rip (Ch. BPISS Riverrun Galatean Gateside Mandalay Riptide, HIC, 2018 AOM)
We are very excited to welcome Rip from Riverrun and Galatean collies. He is a repeat of the breeding that produced 2014 AOM winning Ch. Riverrun Galatean The Lion Roars. Rip is beautiful puppy with tons of attitude and a very promising future. He always makes us laugh.
Rip went to his first dog show and walked away with a BPISS and WD for a 4pt specialty major from the 6-9 class under judge Carmen Leonard. What a way to start his show career. Next stop for him will be the CCA National in OK.
Rip placed 3rd in the 6-9 sable and white class. Huge congrats to his litter brother William who won the class. We heard Rip may have had a little too much fun!
Rip will be back out Fall of 2016 after a wardrobe change. He is starting some obedience work while he grows coat and grows up.
Rip is proven with pointed get, MDR1 M/M, PRA clear, CEA mild, OFA good, DMS low. Rip is not at public stud.
Rip went WD/BOW/BOS to BOB at CC of Maine for his second major in Feb of 2017.
He picked up his third specialty major (5 points) in April of 2017 before blowing coat. He'll be looking for those last two singles this fall. Rip finished in Dec of 2017 under breeder judge John Buddie.
Photo as an untrimmed 7 month old puppy. Adult photos pending.
Rip babies are hitting the show ring and he has multiple, pointed, specialty pointed and major pointed offspring from the 6-9 month class.
In 2018, Rip went to Nationals as a special for the first time and was given an Award of Merit. His son was Smooth Reserve Winner's dog for his 4th major to finish at 11 months old.

Scarlett (Ch. Gateside Mandalay Ruffle my Petticoat)
Eve's daughter by Rip. Scarlett went to her first dog show and came home with a 5 point specialty major. And as is the way of dogs, she started to blow coat! We got one more show and another point before she was completely naked. Scarlett went out once in Spring 2017 and picked up another point going BOW/BOS. We have decided to hold her back for the 2018 specialties.
A quick outing to make sure she remembered how to show prior to specialty season had her taking WB/BOW for another point.
Scarlett has gone to Florida to play dog show with Mandalay collies while we are whelping puppies here in New Hampshire.
She finished in Florida with 4 majors and will be bred the end of 2018. She is MDR1 M/M, PRA clear and CEA mild.
Scarlett gave us a singleton smooth sable bitch in her only litter (Sunday). We were so pleased with Sunday that we retired Scarlett who now lives with another of our collies on a couch in Northern NH.

Flirt (Ch. Mandalay Gateside Infatuation)
Look at that face!!! Flirt is the daughter of Ayna (Riverrun Galatean Sparks will Flame) and Cooper (BISS GCh. Calibre's Key to the Fortune). She is growing up at Mandalay. She (and her siblings) truly were a team effort. The litter was graciously co-bred with the ladies of Riverrun, Galatean and Calibre collies.
Flirt has been growing her big girl coat and her first time out all dressed up she took a specialty Major Reserve and Best in Sweeps. As of June 2015 Flirt is minored out and taking some time off for a wardrobe change. At the 2016 National, Flirt won the quality packed Open Sable class. She finished the following month with a 4 pt specialty major at the Greater Jacksonville collie club.
In 2017 Flirt came to NH to be bred. She gave us a litter of 6 sable rough puppies. We kept two, Hazel and Cash, both growing up back in Florida with their mother.
Flirt is retired with her own human family and human boy. We are lucky she sends up the best emails about her new life.

Evie (Ch. Gateside Mandalay River at Twilight, CGC, TDI, HIC)
From our litter of Tipper x Tanner, little Miss Evie is co-owned with Mandalay collies but will be staying her at Gateside. Expect to see her in her ring debut Winter 2012.
Evie was Best in Sweeps at the NHCC 2011 match under judge Pam Durazzano. She was Best Bitch in regular classes under Mary Lang at a precocious 3 months of age.
Evie passed her CGC just before her first birthday.
Evie finished with 3 majors in November 2012. Evie is mild CEA, certified non-PRA carrier and MDR1 Mutant/Mutant.
Evie passed her Therapy Dog International test on 1/24/15 qualifying her to participate in nursing, school and hospital home visits. She easily passed her herding instinct test.
We have a rough tri bitch out of Eve (Chickadee) who is my daughters dog.
Eve retired and lives with a smooth collie from our first litter. They are both therapy dogs with their new owner. I'm lucky that both Eve and her 'sister' come and visit me several times a year.

Over the Rainbow Bridge
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Ch. Mandalay's Rock and Roll all Night, RN, CGC, TDI (Kiss) 8-31-07
Click for Kiss Pedigree
Kiss decided 2009 was her year. With the support of Ellen Russell (Dublin Hill) our blue eyed, brown eyed sable merle wonder collie (as her breeder lovingly calls her) took the ring by storm, picking up 12 points and 1 major including several BOV wins in limited showing. A special thanks to all the judges who saw Kiss as a collie and not as a color. And a huge thank you to Ellen Russell for believing in Kiss and taking her out. The weekend before she was scheduled to come home, Kiss and Ellen pulled out all the stops and picked up that last major to finish! Kiss took some time off to have a litter and is now training for her performance career.
She passed her CGC (Canine Good Citizenship Test) easily and her Rally Novice title with scores of 95, 99 and 99 in one weekend. Kiss is mild CEA, a certified non-PRA carrier and MDR1 Normal/Normal. Her grandsire and son both OFA'd excellent hips.
Kiss is the dam of 2011 Winner's Bitch, Best Smooth Puppy Bitch at the CCA National, Ch. Mandalay Gateside A Kiss for Luck, multi-Group placing, nationally ranked Bronze GCh Gateside Kiss the Sky at Greyfriar and Specialty winning Ch. Gateside Mandalay Kiss the Girls.
She and I are negotiating the conditions of her return to the obedience ring. She drives a hard bargain and would prefer to hang on the couch and hike with her human....unless maybe there are cookies involved?
Bribery won and Kiss passed her Therapy Dog International test on 1/24/15 qualifying her to participate in nursing, school and hospital home visits. She took the test cold relying on previous training and her outstanding temperament to pass. She did not disappoint!

GCh. Mandalay's Chill Seeker at Gateside, RN, CGC (Seeker) 9-17-08
Multi GROUP PLACING!!
As a yearling
Seeker spent the Summer 2009 with Jaye in Indiana and came back to New Hampshire with 9 points and both majors.
He's been out sparingly in 2010 and picked up a specialty 4 point major reserve, a 2 point BOW and a 2 point BOV over specials.
Seeker finished the Summer of 2010 with a 2pt BOW at 23 months of age. He is starting his obedience training while he finishes growing up.
Seeker passed his CGC (Canine Good Citizen Test) with ease. And picked up his RN (Rally Novice) in 3 shows over 2 days with 3 class placements including a first place. Seeker picked up the first leg of his CD with a 4th class placement.
Plans to take Seeker out as Special in 2012 were put on hold due to a deep foot laceration. Maybe we'll try for the Special's ring in 2013!
First show as a special Seeker went BOS. We did a bit of training and second time out he went BOV and a Group 4!
He spent the winter of 2014/15 in Florida Jaye Athy where he took a Select and Best Bred by Exhibitor in steep competition at Eukanuba 2014. He finished his Grand Championship in Jan 2015 right before heading to CCA 2015 and making the last round of cuts in the specials ring.
Seeker is PRA clear, MDR1 M/N, CEA mild, DMS risk is low at 3%. He is rough factored. He and his sire are both OFA hips excellent. Seeker has been used very selectively. He is proven with finished, minor and major pointed and group placing offspring out of less than a handful of litters.
Seeker's smooth daughter Luna finished her Championship on her 1st birthday with 4 majors. His rough daughter from the same litter has multiple majors.
Warming up for the 2017 CCA National Seeker went BOV/Group 4 at the morning All Breed show and BOV/BOS to BOB at the Northern Arizona Fancy Specialty under Judge Melanie D. Williams. He was groomed and handled by Laurie Jeff Greer.
Seeker has picked up 2 more specialty BOV and an all breed BOV with a pull in the group.
He was best smooth veteran dog in his age bracket at the 2017 CCA national and went on through all 3 rounds of cuts.
The first half of 2017 had him #12 ranked smooth collie in the USA having been out only a few weekends. His daughter Luna was ranked number 14 at the same time.
Seeker left us with a daughter, Soleil.
Through the miracle of science, we currently (2023) have 2 young Seeker daughters (1/2 sisters) that we whelped long after his death. Through Freya and Astrid we still have a piece of him with us.
